A Dog Walks into a Nursing Home

April 28, 2023 by Traci Lawman

A dog walks home

I was standing in the turquoise waters on the island of Aruba when a woman walked up next to me. We started to chat and our conversation quickly turned to dogs. She had taken classes to certify her dog as a therapy dog. I looked up and thought to myself…I am half way around the world, half way through my therapy dog classes and I just happen to run into someone who shares this passion of bringing joy to individuals through the love of a dog. I believe in God moments, and this was one of them. As we continued talking she told me I needed to read the book, “A Dog Walks into a Nursing Home.” Authored by Sue Halpern, this book explores lessons of warmth, humor and insights into visiting nursing home patients and staff with her Labradoodle, Pransky. This delightful book gives the reader a sense of what virtue is and how acts of kindness transform the giver as well as the given-to.

Losing a dog, a furry family member, is ruff. I love dogs and photography. Take a peek at the sympathy cards I have created. They are all originals, and from my heart, as I have lost many and remember vividly what each dog I have owned brought to my life.
